In a private civil ceremony that was kept quite even from close friends, Geordie duo Ant and Dec tied the knot in a Chiswick register office on Friday.
Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 34, have been dating on and off since meeting on BBC One’s Byker Grove in 1989.
Since then the pair have made a name for themselves in the UK and US, acting, singing and presenting on such hit shows as The X Factor and Saturday Night Takeaway.
In an interview with Attitude magazine, out tomorrow, Dec reveals how Ant first proposed to him on a trip to America, whilst filming the pilot for a US series of You Bet.
Dec, however, was hesitant to commit to Ant at this stage, citing the pair’s busy schedules and Ant’s occasionally violent manner, which had caused the pair to split up frequently throughout the late 90s, putting “serious pressure” on their working relationship.
But in August, after springing a surprise trip to Paris and promising to get help for his anger and control issues, Dec was happy to accept Ant’s hand in marriage.
Cat Deeley, who co-presented SMTV with the duo, said to The Shoe Horn: “We all know Ant and Dec’s relationship’s had its ups and downs, but we’re just so happy the pair seem to have settled down in recent years and wish them a loving and lasting relationship now they’ve taken it to this level.”
